The Nainital Bank Limited was established on 31 st July, 1922, founders included veteran freedom fighter Bharat Ratna Late Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant and Late Shri Mathura Dutt Pande , Late Shri Parma Lal Sah, Late Sheikh Abdul Kayum & other prominent personalities of Kumaun. 30 th July, 1922 was a historic day not only for the Nainital Bank Limited but for the Indian Banking System when a few people proposed to establish a Bank at Nainital to cater the financial needs of local people. Feelings of the people of Uttarakhand are deeply associated with the Nainital Bank
Bank was floated as a public limited company in private sector and now a days classified under the category old generation private sector banks.
At the time of inception, the Bank proposed to cover a huge part of Northern India called “United Provinces”.
All the branches of the Bank are operating in CBS platform. Bank is also providing RTGS, NEFT, SMS Alerts, RuPay ATM cum Debit Card, NainiNet Internet Banking and Mobile Banking facilities to its customers.
Till 1973, Bank operated with only 9 branches restricted to Kumaun area of ”United Provinces” (prior to Uttar Pradesh). In the year 1973, Reserve Bank of India directed Bank of Baroda, a prominent Public Sector Bank, to manage the affairs of the Nainital Bank Limited.
Original Shareholding of Bank of Baroda was 30% in 1973 which increased to approx. 98.62% at present.
On November 28 th , 1978 the Bank was included in the IInd Schedule of R.B.I. Act, 1934.
